Eighteen disciplines, one life of mine

Ordered the way the work actually runs: exploration, modelling, resource estimation, design, scheduling, reclamation. The vendor's own eleven-workshop programme covers no mine engineering — seven of the eighteen below exist to close that gap.

Eighteen in all, across the life of a mine. The mine engineering block is the same size as the geology block — and it is the one the vendor programme does not cover.

Geology and modelling

Exploration essentials, borehole data management, bore and seam modelling through splits and washouts, strata build versus model build, fault modelling, and coal quality modelling.

Resource and reserves

Geostatistics and resource classification — variograms, kriging variance, defensible Measured, Indicated and Inferred boundaries — then resource reporting that survives audit.

Mine engineering

Pit optimisation, pit and dump design, reserve reporting, pit and dump scheduling, truck cycle time, and reclamation and landform design. This is the block the official programme leaves out.

Automation and output

Advanced plotting for reports and stakeholder briefings, Minex SQL for interrogating borehole, seam and grid data, and Tcl macro techniques that turn the monthly cycle into something anyone can rerun.

How it runs

Role-based, not calendar-based

A geologist and a scheduler need different weeks. We build the plan around who does what, then deliver it where your people are.

  • Your data, not a demo. We teach on your own project where commercial terms allow, and build an anonymised twin when they do not.
  • On site or remote. On-site for implementation and hands-on training; remote for model reviews, script support and follow-up sessions across WIB, WITA and WIT.
  • Written procedures. Every engagement ends with documented workflows and scripted steps, so the knowledge survives a resignation.
  • Complementary to the vendor. Attend the official Continued Support workshops — they are good. We will tell you which sessions matter for which roles, and cover what a six-hour webinar cannot.

Geologists, engineers, and the person who inherits it

The failure we are called in to fix is rarely a software failure. It is a handover failure.

  • Exploration geologists. Borehole data to a 3D seam model that correlates across faults.
  • Resource geologists. Geostatistics, classification, and a reserve statement that can be defended line by line.
  • Mine engineers. Pit optimisation, design, scheduling and haulage — the disciplines the official programme does not teach.
  • The next person. Whoever inherits the model when the person who built it leaves. That is who the written procedures are for.

What buyers ask about training

Do you train on our project data or a sample dataset?

On your project wherever the commercial terms allow. Sample-dataset training produces people who can pass an exercise; your seams split where they split and your faults behave the way they behave. Where the data cannot leave your systems, we build an anonymised twin that keeps the geometry and loses the identifiers.

The vendor is already running eleven workshops. Why pay for more?

Attend them, and we will tell you which ones matter for each role. But a six-hour regional webinar teaches the tool on the presenter's dataset, at a fixed time, to whoever can attend. It does not migrate your Vulcan grids, reconcile last year's reserve statement, script your monthly cycle, or sit with your geologist when a seam split refuses to model. The two are complements, not alternatives.

How long does training take?

It depends on the roles, not on a catalogue. A single discipline runs a day or two; a full role-based programme for a geology and engineering team typically runs across several weeks with work between sessions, because people learn a modelling package by modelling, not by watching.

Do you cover mine engineering, or only geology?

Both. Seven of the eighteen disciplines are mine engineering — pit optimisation, pit and dump design, reserve reporting, scheduling, truck cycle time and reclamation. That block exists precisely because the official programme does not cover it.

What language is the training delivered in?

Indonesian and English. Most sessions run in Indonesian, because that is the language the room thinks in and a splitting seam is hard enough without translating it as you go. Where a session includes an expatriate technical manager or a reviewer from the parent company, we run it in English or bilingually. The Minex interface, its documentation and the reporting codes stay in English throughout — so the terminology your team carries into a review is the terminology the reviewer uses.

Are you replacing our team, or training it?

Training it, and deliberately more than one person, so the model does not end up sitting inside a single head. Every engagement closes with written procedures and scripted workflows that your own people run. Retained support exists for model reviews and staff turnover, not to keep you dependent. If you need us less each year, the work was done right.

Who actually delivers the training?

ACALA’s own technical team — not subcontractors, and not a training department that has never opened the software on a live project. They hold the certifications and competencies for the disciplines they teach, and they are the same people who do the consulting work: exploration, geological modelling, resource estimation, pit design, scheduling and mineral asset valuation. That matters at the point a question goes past the exercise, which it usually does. Named CVs for the people assigned to your engagement are available on request.
